Old Roadbeds Cause Erosion

When the original settlers came, they took their teams and wagons up the valley bottoms.  The wagon wheels nicked the turf, and this started gullies which can develop violently during fast runnoff.  Left untreated, these will eat whole valleys.

These waterers hold about 3 gallons.  They are useful to many animals including pronghorn.  They are made by the Surber Tank Company, Odessa Texas.

Tinajas are basins in watercourses that fill with water during seasonal rainstorms.  Some are very large.  Even where there are no year-round springs, water can be abundant during some times of year.
